Workington projects

More than £30 million of funding is being invested in Workington on projects to boost the economy, improve transport links, and create important new facilities.

Workington is the largest town in West Cumbria and is the retail and industrial destination of this stretch of coast. It is home to numerous business parks, which focus on heavy and light manufacturing and engineering, while its town centre features many national chains and independent businesses.

Now, more than £30 million of investment is going to transform transport connectivity, build exciting new sport and business centres, make better use of the Port, and improve skills.

UK Government funding is supporting the Workington Gateway project which will open up and improve connections for motorists, cyclists and walkers alike, and enhance HGV access to key industrial and employment areas.

In addition, Town Deal funding of £23.1million was awarded to support five priority projects. They are:
•    Cumberland Sports Village
•    Digital Accelerator Hub
•    Innovation Centre
•    Port of Workington Logistics and Energy Hub
•    Town Centre Public Realm and Connectivity

A Town Deal Board is leading the way on delivering the Workington Town Investment Plan.
