Request the information of someone who has died

We receive requests from individuals and organisations about those who have died. Each request is dealt with on an individual basis.

Historical burial registers for all our cemeteries are held in the local bereavement services offices at either Carlisle or Copeland crematoriums. The registers are available to view through an appointment system. Please contact the relevant office for details.

It is important to note the burial registers for the former Allerdale and Carlisle areas are only available up to the 1990’s. After this, burial records are now computerised and searches from 1990’s onwards would need to be undertaken by bereavement services staff.

It is important to at least have the full name and reasonably accurate date of death before contacting us.

We do not hold any records of burials in churchyards in the district. These are usually available by contacting the Minister in charge of the church, although older registers may have been lodged at the Cumbria Archives.

If you would like us to search the register on your behalf

We can search records on your behalf, but a fee is payable for this service.

You can request a burial record search by contacting the Bereavement Service in your area.

We cannot guarantee that the information requested will be disclosed as any information related to a death may be exempt from disclosure under exemptions provided by the Freedom of Information Act.
