Carlisle sits astride the UK’s main north-south road and rail links and is within 1-2 hours of Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
Its excellent location has led to some of the country’s leading companies basing their operations here. The city has a number of industrial estates offering a range of accommodation. These include Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone, a premier business park, that has more than 2 million square feet of industrial, office and warehouse buildings ranging in size from 1,500 to 83,000 square feet. The site is set in over 162 hectares of landscaped grounds and has planning permission for B1, B2 and B8 uses, namely: industrial, warehouse, distribution and office space.
The site can be accessed directly from Junction 44 of the M6 via the Carlisle Northern Development Route (A689). This major arterial route travels through the middle of the site, traversing to the north of Carlisle before joining the A595 to West Cumbria.
Lillyhall Business Park and Industrial Estate is located approximately 4km to the South East of Workington town centre and is a major strategic employment site and has attracted a significant number of commercial occupiers. The development extends to some 40 Ha of mixed use commercial and education accommodation with around 100 businesses and education facilities including the Lakes College Campus which incorporates a construction skills centre and the National College for Nuclear.
There are a number of greenfield sites at Lillyhall which are currently in the freehold position of Cumberland Council and are available for development.
As part of the Workington Town Deal, we will remediate approximately 8.5 hectares of land at the Port of Workington and the adjacent designated employment site. The land is available for development for a range of industrial or storage and distribution uses and is envisaged that the site will be of particular interest to businesses in the logistics and clean energy sectors. The project includes the development of new hardstanding adjacent to existing rail sidings to further develop the capacity of the Port of Workington as a multi-modal transport hub.
Funding has been secured from Round 2 of the Levelling Up Fund for the Workington Gateway Project which will further improve access to the Port of Workington building on recent investment including the provision of new access bridge to the Port.
