Co-opted Community Panel members

Co-opted members are unelected people who are asked to join a Community Panel because of the insight, expertise or background they can bring to the decision-making process.

Each year, panels decide whether to appoint up to three co-opted members. Once appointed, they serve for 12 months.

Who are we looking for?

If you are keen to play a role in shaping local life, being a co-opted member could be for you. Unlike elected panel members, co-opted members cannot vote - but they can contribute to the decision making process by asking questions, providing feedback and bringing their own perspective and viewpoints.

Co-opted members mean Community Panels can be more representative of the areas they serve.

Why should I apply?

As well as helping shape decisions in your area, as a co-opted member you would meet like-minded people, undertake personal development, and learn more about local democracy in action.

There is no ‘typical’ co-opted member - whatever your background or expertise, being a co-opted member will provide experience and development that you can take forward.

Relevant expenses will also be covered, and you will gain access to a range of induction training and development.
