Local studies library
The Local Studies Library contains an important collection of books, illustrations, journals, reports and other printed and original materials relating to all aspects of life in Whitehaven and West Cumbria up to the present day.

- Census returns 1841 to 1901 for Cumberland
- Electoral rolls, 1832 to 2002
- Index to civil registrations of births, marriages and deaths (England and Wales), 1837 to 2003

- Probate records, Deanery of Copeland 1541 to 1858

How to get here
The train station is a 10 minute walk from the centre.
Buses are a 5 minute walk on Lowther Street and Duke Street.
There is a small car park onsite for archive users.

Opening times
Wednesday to Thursday: 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm (closed between 12.30pm to 1.30pm)
Friday: 9.30am to 12.30pm
The archive centre is closed to the public on all other days.
The Archive Centres (Carlisle and Whitehaven) will be closed on Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December), Boxing Day (Thursday 26 December), New Year’s Eve (Tuesday 31 December) and New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1 January).
