Local studies copies and fees

Find out about our limited look-up and copying service if you are unable to visit our local studies libraries.

Remote enquiry service

We can provide one specific search of not more than 30 minutes duration per customer per main local studies Library free of charge within a six month period.

Look ups for parish registers or newspapers must be accompanied by full details including the date, month and year and details of entry or article.

We shall provide, where relevant, scans of documents, photographs and relevant pages. The charge for these is £1 per copy.

For publication quality copies you will need to make an appointment to visit in person. If this is not possible then contact the relevant Library.

We do not provide a digitisation service, but it may be possible to arrange digitisation of specific documents through the Archive Service. We may be able to carry out further research on your behalf for a fee of £54.90 per hour pro rata.

Please enquire at the relevant local studies library in the first instance or you can contact a private records researcher to undertake work for a fee on their behalf  - a list of private researchers can be found on the Cumbria Archives website.

Library Service copyright declaration

If you are requesting or taking digital copies of documents or microforms, you will be asked to complete a copyright declaration. We will be unable to supply you with the copies you require until payment and a completed form has been received.
