Booklet to help with stress at Christmas

Cumberland Council has created a booklet full of helpful tips to cope with Christmas.

The leaflet is aimed at the clients of the council’s Health and Wellbeing Coaches – people who are receiving regular coaching support to help them change aspects of their lives.

But its creators say it could be useful to lots of people at what can be a stressful time.

Cllr Markus Campbell-Savours, Cumberland Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Adult and Community Health, said: “The festive season is great for lots of us – gifts, family, time away from work. But for others it can be overwhelming, or can trigger feelings of loneliness or anxiety.

“The booklet contains really practical ways to deal with everything from planning the Christmas dinner to tackling loneliness and accessing services over the holidays.

“There are some activities for those quiet moments and lots of ways to stop ourselves becoming overwhelmed by Christmas.

Cumberland Council’s Health and Wellbeing Coaches help people improve their social, physical or mental wellbeing.

Cllr Campbell-Savours added: “Most of the people our coaches work with have faced a period of crisis or have multiple issues they need to understand and work through.

“Our coaches find out what people want to change, what barriers might be in the way, and what support people can draw from themselves and those around them.”

Health and Wellbeing Coaches can help clients become more independent and resilient, take action around lifestyle factors and engage with their communities.
