A winter wonderland came to West Cumbria this week, thanks to the efforts of Cumberland Council, Family Action, Rosehill Theatre and Sellafield Ltd.
Children from the former Allerdale and Copeland areas, enjoyed gifts from Santa and some festive sparkle over two days on 20 and 21 December at two Winter Wonderland events.
Over 100 children, and their families, were treated to gifts bought by people from the local area.
The families that attended the event in the United Reformed Church, Whitehaven and Northside Community Centre, Workington also enjoyed Christmas crafts, Christmas carols and a meal.
Families also received a hamper filled with fruit, vegetables and a meat voucher.
One parent said: “It’s great to see such a well planned event. Everyone having a fantastic and festive time. There’s nothing better than seeing the smiles on children’s faces and there were plenty! My children absolutely loved it. A real community feel.”
Cllr Lisa Brown, Deputy Leader at Cumberland Council and Executive member with responsibility for governance and thriving communities, said: “I’m so pleased that we were able to help bring the magic of Christmas to so many children and their families this year, and make them all feel really special. I’d also like to thank the partners who made this year’s Winter Wonderland events such a success.”
Nathan Adair, Social Impact Manager, Sellafield Ltd said: “The support towards the appeal has been a real team effort with many of our supply chain companies and local stores in our community getting involved. We have worked closely with Family Action, who have worked with the local council to ensure gifts donated are given to families in need in West Cumbria.
"Sellafield Ltd has also provided Social Impact Multiplied funding for 120 fruit and veg hampers and 195 meat vouchers for families struggling in West Cumberland and funding gifts, nightwear and vouchers for older children.”
Organisers would also like to thank all the volunteers who helped with the project, Mitie who helped deliver presents and to Petersons and Jacobs who helped deliver the hampers.
