Brownrigg drainage issue resolved!

Leaking pipe

Cumberland Council is pleased to announce the successful resolution of drainage issues that have been impacting the community of Brownrigg, near Arlecdon.

Listening to the concerns raised by the local community the council has taken proactive steps to significantly improve the drainage system and road infrastructure.

As part of the solution, a new access chamber was constructed in the verge, strategically placed to optimise its functionality. This access chamber now houses a network of pipes that converge at a central point, greatly enhancing the efficiency of water flow. This advancement contributes to better water management and substantially reduces the risk of flooding to nearby properties, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

To sustain the effectiveness of the drainage system, Cumberland Council carried out repairs on a damaged pipe located in the verge. The Highways team dug down two meters to accurately pinpoint and rectify the issue. This steadfast commitment showcases the council’s dedication to delivering sustainable and lasting solutions, ensuring the longevity of the improvements and the well-being of the community.

In addition to the drainage system improvements, the Highways team executed repairs to the road infrastructure along Brownrigg. A total of 13 carriageway patches were implemented to address areas of concern, ensuring smoother and safer driving conditions for residents and motorists.

Recognising the vital role gullies play in road drainage, Cumberland Council took proactive measures to improve their functionality. Through a careful process of resetting and replacing their tops, these essential components now ensure the effective collection and diversion of rainwater away from the road surface. The outcome of this crucial upkeep is a significant reduction in potential hazards caused by water build-up, enhancing the overall safety of the roadways.
