Bushfield's retaining wall in Penton has been reconstructed.
With an estimated cost of £27,000, Cumberland Council has recently rebuilt a collapsed wall at Bushfield, Penton in Carlisle.
Since the wall deteriorated over time, it posed a threat to those living nearby, as well as pedestrians, motorists, and livestock roaming between the fence and the top of the embankment. Recent investigations determined that urgent repair works were necessary to prevent the collapse of the wall.
While the work was being completed, a two-way traffic light system was placed for approximately four weeks to minimise disruption for drivers.
Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:
“Our sincere thanks to the local community for their patience and support throughout the project to improve the wall and prevent any further erosion of the carriageway. We are extremely grateful for their cooperation and understanding, which has been a major part of the success of this project.
“We are pleased to have been able to make these improvements, and we thank the local community for their continued support. We hope that the new wall will ensure the safety and security of the carriageway for many years to come.”
