Cumberland Council is reminding residents how to apply for a waste permit following a week-long operation.
Throughout this initiative, Cumberland Council Enforcement officers have been working alongside partners from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), Police, Environment Agency, and Trading Standards.
The Carlisle Enforcement Officer's role was to ensure people had the correct waste transfer note documentation, which can be obtained online.
During the initiative, Cumberland Council's Enforcement officers educated and assisted several individuals on the proper disposal of commercial waste, which helped to raise awareness about responsible waste management practices within the community.
The team took decisive action when necessary to uphold waste disposal regulations. As a result, two fixed penalty notices were issued to individuals who failed to provide a Waste Transfer note.
Cumberland Council is reminding people that household rubbish may be brought to Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in a minibus, utility vehicle (i.e. pick-up, flatbed, crew cab, twin axle trailers up to three metres long), however a permit is required. A permit is not required if items are dropped off by car.
If people need a permit, they should either phone 0300 373 3730 or complete the online application form.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:
“We are delighted that our week-long partnership operation has achieved resounding success! Our primary objective was to raise awareness and educate individuals visiting the Household Waste Recycling Centres with waste items. We wanted to promote awareness about the ease of obtaining permits, which can be conveniently acquired by either contacting us via phone or applying online.
“I would like to thank our partners for their collaboration during this operation at the Carlisle Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), who were an integral part of this initiative.
“Together, we can make a lasting impact on our environment, and with the ongoing support of residents and businesses, we are confident in our ability to stay on track and make a positive difference for our community.”
