Cumberland Libraries embrace sustainability for Green Libraries Week 2023

Cumberland Libraries are excited to announce their plans for Green Libraries Week 2023; a nationwide celebration of sustainable practices, environmental awareness, and community engagement.

From 2 October 2023 to 8 October 2023 Cumberland Libraries will host a dynamic line-up of activities and events aimed at promoting eco-consciousness while bringing the community together.

Green Libraries Week is a national event that underscores libraries' commitment to environmental stewardship, promoting green initiatives, and inspiring individuals to embrace sustainable lifestyles.
Below is a taster of the events taking place in Cumberland during Green Libraries Week. 

  • Sustainable Warmth drop-in events. Wigton, Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle Libraries. These free drop-in events provide the perfect opportunity for Cumberland residents to chat to the Sustainable Warmth Team about the home energy efficiency upgrades that help in the phasing out of fossil fuels and saving money.
     
  • Greener Family Games and Craft Session – Carlisle Library, Saturday 7 October, 10am – 12pm. Recycling themed games and crafts for all the family.
     
  • Green Doctors at Whitehaven Library – Friday 6 October, 1pm – 3.30pm. A team of certified experts in energy efficiency provide complimentary, unbiased guidance to empower you in managing your expenses, ensuring a cosy environment, maintaining good health, and reducing energy consumption.
     
  • Additionally, they will also be distributing complimentary Winter Warmer Packs.
     
  • Make Your Own Seed Bombs, Family Fun Drop-in at Seaton and Workington Library – Tuesday 3 October, 3pm – 4.30pm at Seaton Library and Saturday 7 October, 10.30am – 12.30pm at Workington Library.
