Cumberland Council is delighted to announce that the prestigious Cumberland Markets Trader of the Year 2023 award has been bestowed upon the Keogh Family, proprietors of "Country Flavour."
The business is passionately managed by the Keogh Family, comprising Chris and Jo Keogh, along with their 43-year-old son, Stephen. The roots of Country Flavour trace back over 75 years when Stephen's grandparents, Harry and Rosemary, who initiated the venture at the Herb Farm near Carlisle. Since 1978, the business has been based in Kirkby Stephen.
Cumberland Council organises regular markets in Keswick, Wigton, Workington, and Silloth, offering a platform for local traders to showcase their products. The Trader of the Year award, now in its sixth year, recognises the outstanding contributions of stallholders to the enduring success of Cumberland's Markets.
Councillor Markus Campbell-Savours, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Adults and Community Health, said:
“I’m pleased to be able to present this award to Stephen, on behalf of Cumberland Council. Stephen has been a dedicated stall holder for numerous years and has played a pivotal role in fostering the ongoing success of our markets.
"The markets in Keswick, along with those in our other towns, have proven to be highly successful, making a substantial contribution to the vitality and sustainability of our communities. This success is a testament to the collective efforts of the team and the commitment of traders like Stephen. Therefore, it's a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge their achievements and thank them for their continued support."
Expressing his gratitude Stephen Keogh on behalf of Country Flavour, remarked:
"It is a very big honour to be recognised in this way and was very much a surprise! Our business relies heavily on the phenomenal number of visitors that come to Keswick, which makes the Keswick Market so successful."
