As work on the new Community Hub for Aspatria gathers pace, Cumberland Council are inviting the community to drop-in at their upcoming engagement event to find out more about how the new hub will benefit their community.
The engagement event will take place on Monday 19 June between 3pm – 6pm in Aspatria Rugby Club on Station Road. Residents are being encouraged to come along, browse the building designs, and ask any questions they might have.
Building plans include the renovation and extension of the Aspatria Library building on Market Square. The new hub will bring together the town’s library and Children’s Centre under one roof in a fit-for-purpose, modernised building.
Works started in March are set to complete in autumn. A temporary library service is currently being provided from the Children’s Centre on King Street. The temporary offer includes select and collect, printing and online access.
The new hub will create a fresh and modern library space, providing access to a wide range of library services and a fantastic new Children’s Library. The project also comprises an excellent new Children’s Centre for young people and their carers, with a light and airy playroom, a ‘messy play’ area, and a great new enclosed outdoor play area.
The hub will also create a new facility for partner organisations through a multipurpose room providing a refurbished shared space for the delivery of Adult Learning courses, Health and Wellbeing sessions and much more.
Roland Hill are carrying out the works on behalf of Cumberland Council.
“Work on the new Community Hub is really starting to take shape and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product later this year. The transformed and extended building will create a fantastic new asset for the families of Aspatria. The modernised library will provide the perfect place to enjoy everything the service offers, from books to PCs and more.”
Councillor Emma Williamson, Cumberland Council Executive Member for Children's, Family Wellbeing and Housing, said;
“The brilliant new Community Hub and Children’s Centre will provide a wonderful place for young people and their carers to visit. Children’s Centre visitors will also be able to enjoy the facilities on offer from the library, particularly benefiting from access to the wonderful new Children’s Library.”
Councillor Kevin Thurlow, Cumberland Council Community Panel Member for Fells and Solway, said;
“This is a great project for the community of Aspatria and many children and families will benefit from the modern new Community Hub with integrated library and Children’s Centre. I hope the Aspatria community will take the opportunity to come along to our drop in event on 19 June to find out more.”
