Cumberland Council is updating the community about the Carlisle Station Gateway project, which is steaming ahead, marking a positive transformation for the city.
The Carlisle Station Gateway project, a strategic regeneration project included in the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, is an initiative that targets the rejuvenation of both Carlisle city centre and the broader Borderlands region.
The project is well underway and has seen some significant activity at the junctions of Currock Street, James Street, Water Street and Rome Street. The contractor, Eric Wright Civil Engineering, has started the demolition of the vacant Staples building adjacent to Matalan.
The upcoming phase involves the demolition of The Pools, scheduled for early January. As a result, the footway near The Pools area at the top of James Street, will be temporarily closed from Monday 8 January 2024. Pedestrians are kindly requested to utilise the footpath and walkways on the opposite side of the road and will have clear diversion signs in place to guide the public.
The council is reminding people that all local businesses will remain open and thank them for their patience and support during the works. The Turkish Baths will remain intact but will continue to remain closed.
