Cumberland Council is informing residents and businesses that there will be improvement works on the A6071 Brampton to Smithfield.
The carriageway improvements are scheduled to start on Monday 24 July with a scheduled completion date of Tuesday 22 August. These works will be carried out under a daytime road closure from approximately 8am – 8pm, each day.
During the works, the following roads will be closed each day:
- From Monday 24 July to Monday 7 August: the road located between the A6071 Brampton to Newtown will be closed.
- From Monday 7 August to Tuesday 22 August: the road on the A6071 between Newtown to Smithfield will be closed each day.
To enable the council to complete works safely there will be a full road closure with a signed diversion route in place. People are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the designated diversion route.
Additionally, there will be traffic signals in place at Newtown from Monday 24 July for seven days and at Smithfield from Monday 31 July for seven days.
The works are at four locations and the council expect each scheme to take approximately seven days to complete. The locations are as follows:
- Brampton to Irthing Bridge
- Newtown
- Howrigg Farm to Highberries Bridge
- Smithfield
People are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the designated diversion route.
If residents or businesses require access to their property, we kindly request that this is discussed with the Traffic Marshal who will be on site during the works.
Access will be maintained for emergency services during the works.
