The flagship Taste Cumbria festival in Cockermouth is back on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September, with a launch event on the Friday night.
The ever-popular Producers’ Market will take place on Main Street, while over in Memorial Gardens Car Park, off Wakefield Road, will be the drinks tent, live music stage, picnic area and fairground. There will be other attractions around town with many of the independent businesses taking part.
The very popular Supper Club with Alec Anderson from West Cumbria-based Takeaway@Home is back for another year. He will be cooking a locally-sourced feast at Cockermouth Cricket Club on the Friday night.
There will also be an exclusive Cocktail Masterclass with Cumbria Distilling Co at Cockermouth Kitchen Company in Market Place on the Saturday evening.
On both Saturday and Sunday there will be the chance to watch some of the county’s food and drink experts at work in the Taste Cumbria Demo Kitchen. All their demonstrations are free and there will be plenty of samples to try. There will be a big Producers’ Market on Main Street, while Market Place will host a street party. In Memorial Gardens the drinks tent will also host the music with local acts sourced by local promoter ‘Rock With’. There will be children’s activities with Rainbow Wishes Foundation in The Vicky shared workspace, and street theatre too.
These events couldn’t happen without the festival’s sponsors and supporters. Taste Cumbria is organised by Cumberland Council and supported by Cockermouth Town Council, The Coffee Kitchen Bakery, Tractor Shed Brewing, Cockermouth Cricket Club, Strolling4Shoes, Lloyd BMW, Rock With and Newsquest Cumbria.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said: “It’s going to be great to see Taste Cumbria back in Cockermouth, the town where these festivals first began. Last year’s event brought almost £2 million into the local economy which is great news for the county. This year’s showcase promises to be another great weekend. Come along and enjoy the best food and drink.”
