Nominations for the 2024 Kings Award for Voluntary Service are now open!

Every day, millions of people across the UK are making a difference by volunteering and outstanding examples of their work are celebrated through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS).

The KAVS is equivalent to an MBE and is awarded for life.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service wants to celebrate

  • Groups that are truly outstanding and making a big difference to their local community.
  • Groups where volunteers, rather than paid staff, are in the driving seat.
  • Groups that have highest standards in everything they do.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service - timetable

1 June – 15 September: the nomination period is open – new nominations for the award are being accepted.

December to May: eligible groups are assessed initially by local lieutenancies and then by the national assessors.

Mrs Claire Hensman, Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria said:

‘The Kings Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work undertaken in their local communities. I would like to encourage the nomination of  groups who are led by volunteers who give up their time  for  others and who  are making a huge difference.
