Smooth roads ahead: Millom's resurfacing work successfully completed!

Potholes fixed in Millom

Cumberland Council has recently completed vital highway maintenance work at Millom.

The work took place on the access road to the Household Waste Recycling Centre and on Mainsgate Road in Millom.

The council patched potholes and organised resurfacing works, replacing worn-out sections of road with a new surface.  Thes essential works are crucial maintenance activities to address wear and tear on the roads.

Cumberland Council is reminding the public that they can report potholes by visiting the council’s website, or by phoning the Highways Hotline, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm at 0300 373 3736   Reporting a pothole on a road is an important step in ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians. To report a pothole, it should be 40mm deep or greater. This measurement is necessary to ensure that only significant potholes are reported, as minor ones can be easily repaired by routine maintenance.   During the reporting process, the council asks the public to give a detailed location, width, and depth of the pothole, as well as the customer's email address (so the council can supply progress reports). Residents can also use what3words to communicate locations of the potholes.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:

“This project reflects Cumberland Council's dedication to maintaining and enhancing its infrastructure for the benefit of the community. It contributes to the overall well-being of residents and visitors by providing safer and more reliable roadways.

“Potholes can pose significant risks to drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, leading to vehicle damage or accidents. By addressing these issues promptly, the council helps improve road safety and ensures a smoother driving experience for everyone.

“If residents see a pothole, please let us know, either phone our Highways Hot Line or go online, and our dedicated team will do the rest.”
