Members of the Community Panel also agreed to formally adopt the following priorities, which had been agreed in consultation with the community:
- Empowering our children and young people
- Supporting communities to help themselves
- Reducing food poverty
Workington Together Community Panel chair, Cllr Jimmy Grisdale, said: “There are some fantastic projects that we were able to invest in. They will make a real difference to our residents.
“Formally setting our priorities was also important – they are what shape our investment plans, and all the organisations we support will underpin one or more of those priorities.”
Cumberland Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Lisa Brown, added: “We designed the panels with the aim of listening carefully to our communities, and letting them take the lead in deciding what they need.
“So far it’s working well and I look forward to seeing us support more grass roots projects that have a real and sustainable effect on people’s lives.”
The Workington Together Community Panel covers the wards of Mossbay, Moorclose, Harrington, Seaton, St John’s and Great Clifton, and St Michael’s.
