The task involved the installation of a total of 32 concrete beams, with most weighing approximately 30 tonnes each. The edge beams, which serve as critical components of the structure, weigh an impressive 60 tonnes each.

The project relied on cutting-edge equipment, and these works featured Liebherr's new 700-tonne Lattice Boom Crawler Crane. Featuring a robust 400kW engine, this state-of-the-art crane lifted and positioned the concrete beams with skill and precision.

Cumberland Council's Project Director for the Carlisle Southern Link Road, Alan Bingham, said:
"This achievement represents the collective planning, hard work, and exemplary teamwork of our supply chain. The successful installation of these beams marks a significant step forward in the construction of the new bridge over the West Coast Main Line."

“The completion of this phase highlights our dedication to delivering high-quality infrastructure that will benefit our community for years to come. We extend our gratitude to all of our contractors involved in making this milestone a resounding success.”
