Cumberland Council launched a new social media channel aimed at reaching younger people this week to help promote the voices of young residents. The channel aims to help young people be heard and so they can understand their rights and the choices available to them.
‘Cumberland Youth Voice’, currently on Instagram and Facebook, is aimed at sharing the work of young people in a variety of active participation groups, and helps to demonstrate the work they do in influencing the decisions of the council and wider community.
It also aims to promote the support on offer to our children and young people in Cumberland such as careers advice and guidance, advice around staying safe and it will also share relevant information such as health campaigns or access grants for young people. The channel will share the work of a number of participation and engagement groups supported by Cumberland Council which run across Cumberland, including the Cumberland Youth Council, Unique Voices – for children and young people with SEND, Chat 2 Change – for care experienced young people and Courage Influences Creative Change (CICC) – for young people who are cared for.
Martin Birch, Director of Children and Family Wellbeing, Cumberland Council, said:
“Cumberland Youth Voice aims to reach all young people, helping to improve accessibility to our services. It rightly champions the voices of our incredible and creative young people involved in children’s led participation and engagement groups and others from across Cumberland, each of whom are passionate about improving services and creating a lasting positive change.”
Cumberland Youth Voice participation and engagement groups meet fortnightly in both the Carlisle and West areas. Learn more about all the groups by following Cumberland Youth Voice on Facebook @CumberlandYouthVoice or Instagram, @YouthVoiceCumberland.
