THE ADULT Learning Service for Cumbria has launched a new collection of courses.

Hosted by Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, the Adult Learning Service has added new courses for term two of the 2024/25 academic year.

They include employment, digital skills, languages, arts, and health and wellbeing.

These are in addition to the wide range of courses already on offer, supporting learners to accomplish their goals and achieve their potential.

There are both accredited and non-qualification courses, suiting people at all levels and with differing interests.

The service operates across Carlisle, Whitehaven, Workington, Barrow, Penrith and Kendal and surrounding areas. It aims to provide exceptional  opportunities, inspiring people to enhance their well-being and unlock their potential through learning and the cultivation of positive values and behaviours.

The service has an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’, with 98.5 per cent of learners satisfied, and 97 per cent saying the courses met their expectations. There's never been a better time to get involved.

Many of the courses are entirely free or subsidised and learning is more flexible than ever, with courses delivered both face-to-face and online.

Cllr Elaine Lynch, Cumberland Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Development, said:

“Whether you’re looking to brush up on your digital skills, work on your employability or take some time for your wellbeing with our arts and crafts courses, there is something for everyone.

"See what opportunities we have to offer and join thousands of people who have added to their lives through learning.”

Cllr Janet Battye, Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, added:

“We’re really pleased to launch this new round of courses for Cumbria, helping and inspiring people to further their skills for whatever the reason, whether to progress in their career, to achieve personal goals or learn something for fun.

“Our tutors have years of experience in supporting people to take their skills to the next level, and now that could be you. So, I encourage anyone thinking about taking that next step, to get in touch with the team and see what you achieve in 2025.”
