Head down to Maryport’s historic harbourside next weekend Taste Cumbria’s Taste of the Sea festival is back in town!
Now in its fourth year, this extravaganza of food and drink is getting bigger and better. It takes place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August 2024 in a slightly different seafront location - on the grassland at Marine Road, next to Maryport Marina.
Expect more than 50 stalls in the Producers’ Market selling everything from food and drink to crafts and gifts. See the experts at work on the Vici Demo Stage where they’ll be showcasing cookery for complete beginners through to some fancy dishes to tempt every tastebud. Watch some brilliant live music on the festival stage, perhaps enjoying a beer or a cocktail in the sunshine.
Bring the children along to the fairground or keep them busy with some games and arty workshops. They can even win a Samsung Tablet by completing an Art Trail - discovering creations by local schoolchildren in businesses around the town.
There’s more fish and seafood on offer than ever before at the 2024 event, whether that’s the freshest catch direct from the Chelaris boat or at the festival’s new Oyster Bar. Tuck in to paella with all the trimmings at Saturday’s Fish & Fizz Supper at Her Citi cafe, try the hot fishy treats from Portobello Wood Fired Pizza or the Lake District Lobster & Seafood stall.
Also new for this year is the liveliest night out around - Bingo Loco. It’s bingo like you’ve never played before - expect big prizes, dance offs and lots of laughs. This takes place at Grasslot sports club on the Saturday night.
The Taste Cumbria events are organised by Cumberland Council.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“This year’s Taste of the Sea festival is shaping up to be another brilliant event. It is fantastic that we can bring you all this free entertainment, as well as boosting the local economy with a fabulous shopping, eating and drinking experience.
“Don’t forget to visit Maryport’s brilliant businesses while you’re in town too. It’s great to see how they get behind the event, alongside our excellent sponsors and supporters, and really celebrate everything there is to offer.
“Visitors will also have the chance to meet the council’s Maryport regeneration team who are managing the £12 million investment currently going into the town. We’re double excited for the 2025 event when all the schemes will have come to fruition.”
Taste of the Sea’s main sponsor is Maryport Town Council, and its supporters are Vici, Grants Oaked Smoked, Thomas Armstrong Construction, Maryport Harbour Authority and Maryport Business Group.
