Cumberland Council is pleased to announce that West Road in Thirlmere has been reopened to the public following the rock clearance and undertaking essential safety assessments.
This reopening comes after a significant rockfall, caused by Storm Ashley, which led to an emergency closure between Launchy Gill and Rough Crag.
The emergency closure was implemented on Monday 21 October, to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians while the land adjacent to the roadway was carefully evaluated. Cumberland Council’s team have assessed the detailed condition reports conducted of the affected area to evaluate potential risks to the surrounding environment and has now confirmed that the roadway has been deemed safe for public use.
Motorists are now able to use the road as normal, as of today.
Cumberland Council appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the closure and would like to thank the community for following the recommended diversion routes and safety guidelines while this essential work was underway.
