Cumberland Council is thanking residents throughout the area for their ongoing support in maintaining the cleanliness of bring sites during the festive season.
During the festive season, the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) remained open, with only key dates that they were closed which experienced high usage from residents. For more details of Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), please visit Cumberland Council’s website.
Residents proactively engaged in using the 'recycling bring sites' across Cumberland, including those located in supermarket car parks. They were kindly reminded not to leave items on the ground when the bins or cages were full, and if necessary, to take their items home, returning on another day. To maintain the cleanliness and integrity of these areas, enforcement officers, supported by CCTV surveillance, diligently monitored bring sites to prevent any instances of fly-tipping.
Examining previous pictures of the collection points reveals how full and untidy the sites were, compared with the current year's marked improvements. This positive change can be credited to the collaborative efforts of both residents and dedicated staff who have diligently monitored the sites.
The council is encouraging the community to uphold commendable practices in 2024, emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness at bring sites. If bins or cages reach capacity, residents are requested to return with their items on a different day. Additionally, it is crucial to make sure that each bring bin contains the correct items, as they are clearly labelled. Observing these guidelines will prevent contamination and contribute to the overall health and sustainability of the Cumberland patch.
Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:
“I want to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience during the festive season. As evident from the images, we previously encountered untidiness and unpleasant scenes at some of the collection sites. However, this year presents an absolute contrast.
“The improved situation is a result of the understanding and collaboration of our residents, as well as the dedicated efforts of the teams working tirelessly during the festive season to maintain cleanliness at the sites.
“A huge thank you to everyone who played a part into supporting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment, and we would like to encourage people to continue with these exemplary measures.”.
