Residents affected by the flooding events in May 2024 are invited to attend upcoming drop-in sessions organised by Cumberland Council and the Environment Agency.

These sessions will provide updates on the ongoing flood investigation work and offer an opportunity for residents to engage with the findings and contribute to the final reports.

Cumberland Council teams and the Environment Agency have been actively engaging with residents affected by the flooding through community drop-in events and individual property visits. Draft Flood Investigation Reports (Section 19 Reports) for the areas impacted are nearing completion and will be discussed during the upcoming drop-in sessions:

  • For Flooding Events in Stockdalewath, Bridge End, and Gaitsgill:

Venue: Raughton Head CofE Primary School
Date: Wednesday 25 September
Time: 2.30pm – 6.30pm

  • For Flooding in Scotby (Kates Beck Lane and Pow Maughan Court), Cumwhinton, and Great Corby:
    Venue: Wetheral Village Community Hall
    Date: Wednesday 2 October 2024
    Time: 4pm – 7pm.

These sessions are an opportunity for residents to review the draft findings, provide feedback, and contribute to the final reports. Attendees will also have access to guidance on signing up for flood warnings, advice on protecting homes against future flooding, and discussions on potential measures to reduce future flood risks.

The focus of these events will be on areas with larger numbers of affected properties. However, council officers are also investigating other reported flooding incidents.

If you are unsure whether the authorities are aware of your situation or would like to provide additional information, please contact the relevant council:

These engagements are crucial for ensuring that all voices are heard and that the final reports accurately reflect the impact of the flooding events. The council are encouraging all affected residents to attend and participate in shaping the response to future flood risks.
