The new school year has just begun but for those moving to secondary school next September, it is time to apply for their preferred schools. The deadline to apply is 31 October.
If your child is due to start secondary school next year, you need to ensure that you have applied by the deadline to secure a place at your preferred schools. Late applications will limit the chance of being offered one of your preferred schools.
Applications should be made online, Apply for a secondary school place | Cumberland Council
Every effort is made to place children in one of their preference schools, with over 99% of families securing an offer at their first, second or third preference school in 2024. Parents and carers are reminded that they must nominate three preference schools. If only one preference is given and we are unable to offer a place at that school, then your child will be offered a place at the nearest school with spaces available. This could be a school that is a number of miles from your home address or a faith-based school.
You will be informed by email of the outcome of your application on the 1 March (or the next working day) if you apply online, or post a letter to you on this date if you apply using a paper form.
