Cumberland Council is pleased to confirm the next phase of the flood alleviation works in and around Flimby which are planned to restart from Monday 4 March.
Weather permitting, the A596 will continue to be accessible during the works under traffic light control.
The traffic lights will be manually controlled from 7.00am until 7pm each day and will be placed on a timer outside of these hours.
The council advises the public to plan their journeys in advance, allowing for potential delays.
The flood alleviation initiative has achieved significant milestones, including diverting peak flows from Penny Gill to Furnace Gill, remediating an existing flood gate near the A596, upgrading surface water drainage systems in Coniston Avenue, constructing additional dams to regulate water flow east of Flimby, substantial replacement of a culvert at Bragg Beck, completion of Bragg Beck Culvert, installation of Penny Gill diversion culvert, and the construction of Penny Gill flood storage bund.
This substantial effort to alleviate flooding in Flimby and Maryport has been made possible through a £1.5 million contribution from the Environment Agency's 'Flood Defence Grant in Aid' fund.
If residents or businesses in the area have any questions, they are asked to contact the Highways Hotline at 0300 373 3736, or email A596.flimby@cumbria.gov.uk
