Voters in the Cumberland Council ward of Harraby North in Carlisle are being advised to be ready for the local election which will be held on 27 June 2024.
The call came as the names of those standing for election were published on the Cumberland Council website. There are four candidates in total.

Voters are reminded of some key deadlines ahead of the election.
Applications to register to vote must be made by 12 midnight on Tuesday 11 June 2024. Applications can be made online. It is particularly important that those who have recently turned 18 or recently moved house ensure they are registered, and it is at the correct address.
Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 12 June 2024. Details on how to do this can be found online.
Postal voters now need to provide their National Insurance number alongside their date of birth and signature when applying. Anyone without a National Insurance number should contact the elections team.
Postal voters living in the Harraby North ward are also advised that they will receive two postal vote packs – one for the Harraby North ward election, and one for the General Election. These voters are also advised to check the details on the ballot paper to confirm which election they are voting in and to note that the date by which the postal votes must be returned will be different. The easiest way to return a postal vote is to use the pre-paid Royal Mail envelope provided. Separate envelopes should be used for each ballot paper.
Electors now have to show photo ID when voting in a polling station. There are a number of accepted forms of photo ID which include:

Anyone who does not have an acceptable form of photo ID, can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). You can find out more online.

Andrew Seekings, Cumberland Council’s Electoral Registration Officer, said: “I’d encourage everyone in the Harraby North ward to have their say on who should represent them on Cumberland Council by ensuring they are registered and have applied for a postal vote or have the correct photo ID in place to vote in a polling station. Please do take note of the deadlines for this election, as they are different to those for the General Election which will be held a week later.”
The election was called after the death of Cllr Cyril Weber in April.
