Have your say in review of polling stations

CUMBERLAND Council is seeking residents’ comments as part of their Polling Districts and Places Review consultation.

The consultation offers an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the current polling stations and suggest improvements to ensure they meet the needs of all voters.

The Polling Districts and Places Review aims to assess the suitability of existing polling stations with a focus on their geographical location, accessibility, and the facilities they provide.

Cumberland Council is particularly focused on understanding and addressing the needs of residents and accessibility.

The consultation is open to all residents of Cumberland, giving everyone a chance to have their say on how the voting facilities can be improved.

Residents are invited to share their comments and suggestions on the council’s website. More details and a link to the online consultation can be found on our website and following the links to the polling places review.

Residents can also have their say by emailing the elections team on elections@cumberland.gov.uk or by writing to Electoral Services, Civic Centre, Rickergate, Carlisle, CA3 8QG.

The deadline for submitting feedback is Monday 7 October 2024.

Speaking on the consultation, Andrew Seekings, Cumberland Council’s Electoral Registration Officer and (Acting) Returning Officer, said: “There are many ways that people vote but many still prefer to cast their ballots in a polling station. Therefore it is really important that we get their location and the facilities on offer right so that everyone gets the opportunity to cast their ballot. I’d therefore encourage everyone with an interest to respond to the consultation.”

Following the closure of the consultation, all feedback will be reviewed and collated and a comprehensive report will be produced detailing any proposed changes.  The report will be presented at a full council meeting in November.
