Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel has invested more than £6,000 into vital local projects.
At their recent meeting the panel, which invests money locally on behalf of Cumberland Council, supported projects around pain management, rural activities and road safety.
Cumbria Addictions, Advice and Solutions was awarded £1618 for the 'All Gain, No Pain' project in Longtown and Brampton. People with persistent pain, or a dependency on pain medication, will receive one to one support to improve their health and dependency. This will include access to health professionals, advice and information, and will be delivered in partnership with health services.
The Laurie Brewis Trust (Heathlands) was given £2,937 towards a trial of regular activities in rural locations. The sessions will be open to all but there will be a focus on people with degenerative or permanent health conditions. The exact locations for these activities are yet to be finalised.
The Community Panel also noted a £1,500 investment awarded to Farlam Parish Council for an electronic speed indicator sign near Hallbankgate School primary school.
All the projects support one or more of Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel’s three core priorities: Community facilities and support, the environment, and highways.
Cllr Roger Dobson, Chairman of Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel, said: "We are very proud to have facilitated these projects. A large part of our patch is rural, so bringing activities out to communities, instead of making them travel, is invaluable.
"Sadly, pain management is a service a growing number of people are in need of, so we saw this as a really worthwhile investment. And road safety is, of course, crucial - especially near schools. Hopefully the investment in Farlam will serve to remind drivers of their speed and make the road much safer."
Cllr Lisa Brown, Deputy Leader of Cumberland Council and Portfolio Holder for Adults and Communities, said: “This is another round of carefully thought out funding. These projects are all very different, because they are each aimed at a very specific area of need, in a particular community. That is where Community Panels excel - making hyper local investments that bring an excellent return in terms of quality of life."
