Jet patcher takes on pothole’s repairs across Cumberland!

Jet Patcher

Cumberland Council has deployed jet patchers to address pothole issues within the Cumberland patch.

Typically reserved for warmer weather due to temperature dependencies, the council made an exception over the winter period to utilise jet patchers in support of its ongoing efforts to manage pothole defects throughout Cumberland.

Between Tuesday 9 January and Monday 4 March 2024, two jet patcher teams achieved the following milestones:

  • Completed 2,676 actual defects (associated with reports from the system).
  • Applied to 4,955 square metres.
  • Utilised 129.5 cubic metres of material.
  • Covered 65 working days, accounting for breakdowns, wet days, and non-hire days.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:

“This is excellent news, to have successfully completed 2676 potholes repairs since January. A huge thank you to everyone who reported the defects.

“With 3,616km of highway throughout the Cumberland area, the maintenance of this extensive network is crucial.

“We know how frustrating potholes can be to drivers, but reporting potholes is key, we can only fill a pothole that we know about.  If you do spot a problem on the road network (including foot paths), please get in touch with our Highways Hotline.”

Cumberland Council is reminding the public that they can report potholes by visiting the council’s website, or by phoning the Highways Hotline, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm at 0300 373 3736

During the reporting process, the council asks the public to give a detailed location, width, and depth of the pothole, as well as the customer's email address (so the council can supply progress reports). Residents can also use what3words to communicate locations of the potholes.

It is important to note that reporting a pothole on a road is applicable if it is 40mm deep or greater.
