Carlisle Cathedral is set to shine even brighter following the installation of new lighting.
The new floodlighting scheme is being installed over the next few weeks to highlight the magnificent historic asset in the heart of the city.
Funded by UK Government funding, the new Carlisle Town Deal scheme features the latest in energy efficient LED technology will highlight the Cathedral and Fratry as a prominent landmark.
The current floodlighting scheme at Carlisle Cathedral has come to the end of its serviceable life. Cumberland Council has taken the opportunity to significantly upgrade the system showcasing the city landmark. A professional archaeologist is present on site throughout the grounds work.
The new scheme will also allow for creative and dynamic lighting with changing colours and scenes. This project is designed to attract more people to use the city centre, generate longer dwell time and encourage more people to visit bars and restaurants and enjoy what Carlisle has to offer.
Edith McColgan, Chief Operating Officer of Carlisle Cathedral said:
“We are delighted that work on the floodlighting project is beginning at Carlisle Cathedral and greatly look forward to this improvement in the Cathedral precinct.
“Our thanks go to Cumberland Council for investing in this exciting development, which enables us to upgrade our existing external lighting to a more modern and energy efficient LED lighting system. We look forward to illuminating our historic city centre landmark once the work is complete.”
The Town Deal project ‘lighting up Carlisle’ builds on the success of other feature lighting schemes including the Citadel, Station, Court Square and Crown and Mitre Hotel. New floodlighting schemes will also be installed at other landmark locations in the city.
