Cumberland Council is informing residents and businesses of upcoming road closures associated with the Carlisle Southern Link Road. The first at Peter Lane, followed by a closure at Dalston Road in Carlisle. Both closures apply to all traffic including pedestrians and cyclists.
Peter Lane (5 February – 4 March)
Cumberland Council are closing Peter Lane to all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) from its junction at the A595 Newby West Roundabout, to its junction with the B5299 Dalston Road. Access for residents to properties and business’ on Peter Lane will be available from the Dalston Road end of Peter Lane and will be controlled by a full time Traffic Marshall.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via Dalston Road, Shaddongate, Bridge Street, Church Street, Wigton Road and the A595.
Works on Peter Lane are scheduled to commence on Monday 5 February 2024 until Monday 4 March 2024.
The work involves installing a new culvert across Peter Lane for Fairy Beck. To enable contractors to complete the works safely, it will be necessary to fully close Peter Lane for the duration.
There will be a diversion route in place and signed.
Dalston Road (4 March – 9 June)
Following the completion of the works on Peter Lane, a closure will then be put in place on Dalston Road from Peter Lane towards Dalston, for approximately one mile with no through route access.
This is to support the construction of the new Dalston Road Roundabout. To enable contractors to complete the works safely, it will be necessary to fully close this section of Dalston Road for the duration.
The closure will affect the section of the B5299 Dalston Road, Carlisle from its junction with Peter Lane, extending in a south westerly direction for approximately 200m. A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the B5299 Dalston Road, Brow Nelson, Carlisle Road, Station Road, Barras Lane, Barras Brow, the A595 and Peter Lane.
Access for residents to properties and business’ will be available from the Dalston end of the closure.
These works are scheduled to commence on Monday 4 March 2024 until Sunday 9 June 2024.
There will be a diversion route in place and signed.
