Restoration work has been completed on the Cenotaph in Castle Park, Whitehaven - in time for this year’s Remembrance Sunday service.
Through a collaborative funding effort by Cumberland Council and Whitehaven Town Council, ‘Stone Central’ stonemasons were commissioned to undertake the careful restoration process, ensuring that the monument is preserved for future generations.
All efforts were made to ensure that the cenotaph was restored professionally and respectfully, with attention to every detail.
The work, which included steam cleaning, repointing, and the restoration of the monuments structure, has also been carried out with great respect of the original design.
The newly refurbished cenotaph will be the central point of Whitehaven’s Remembrance Sunday service which takes place on Sunday 10 November at 11am.
Cllr Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“I’d like to pass on my thanks to everyone involved in the restoration. It’s been a collaborative effort with expert support on hand to make sure the delicate work was undertaken in a professional and respectful way. I feel sure the community will be pleased with the outcome”.
