Cumberland Council is pleased to announce that critical repair works to the Gaitsgill Village retaining wall, near Dalston, started on Tuesday 10 December.
These repairs are vital to address concerns raised during flooding and have been shaped by input from the local community.
At a community drop-in session held on 28 November 2024, residents were updated about the necessary repair works and their importance for maintaining the safety and resilience of the retaining walls. The council worked collaboratively with the community to agree on a suitable timescale for these essential improvements.
To carry out the repairs efficiently and with minimal disruption, the council has appointed contractor Metcalfe Plant Hire Ltd, to complete the works, which will be completed in two phases over two weeks:
Key Details of the repairs:
- Stage 1: A temporary full road closure will be in place from Tuesday 10 December to Saturday 14 December 2024.
- Stage 2: From Monday 16 December to Friday 20 December 2024, the road will reopen with temporary traffic management in place. Some delays may occur.
Throughout the repairs, access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained, and residents will continue to have access to their properties.
Cumberland Council would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation as these important repair works take place and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
