A significant rock fall caused by the impact of Storm Ashley has resulted in an emergency road closure on West Road, Thirlmere, between Launchy Gill and Rough Crag.

Cumberland Council has put in place the emergency road closure following the rockfall earlier today (Monday 21 October).

The closure is required to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians in the area.

Cumberland Council are currently assessing the situation, to evaluate the extent of the rockfall and potential risks to the surrounding environment. The road will remain closed until further notice, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if at all possible, if you need to visit this area, please follow the diversion route provided along the A591. Further announcements, including expected reopening times will be communicated as soon as possible.
