Cumberland Council and Renewi Cumbria Ltd are announcing the temporary closure of three Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) for essential maintenance work. These closures will take place at the following sites:
- Clay Flatts HWRC (Workington)
- Bousteads Grassing HWRC (Carlisle)
- Syke Park HWRC (Wigton)
The closures are necessary to carry out vital upgrades and ensure the continued smooth operation of these facilities. Information is as follows:
Clay Flatts HWRC (Workington)
Clay Flatts HWRC will be closed for one day on Tuesday 29 October 2024, to replace the site welfare cabin. The site will close at 6pm on Monday 28 October, and re-open at 8am on Wednesday 30 October.
During the closure, residents are encouraged to either hold onto their waste or use nearby facilities at Maryport or Frizington HWRCs. Waste permits issued for Clay Flatts will be accepted at other HWRCs in the region. Service will resume as normal once the site re-opens.
Bousteads Grassing HWRC (Carlisle)
Bousteads Grassing HWRC will be closed on Monday 4 November, and Tuesday 5 November 2024, for resurfacing work on the ramp. The site will close at 6pm on Sunday 3 November, and will re-open at 8am on Wednesday 6 November.
During this period, residents are advised to hold onto their waste or visit alternative HWRCs at Brampton, Flusco (near Penrith), or Wigton. All valid waste permits for Bousteads Grassing will be accepted at other HWRCs in the area.
Syke Park HWRC (Wigton)
Syke Park HWRC will be closed on Thursday 7 November 2024, for resurfacing work. The site will close at 6pm on Tuesday 5 November, and will re-open at 8am on Saturday 9 November.
While the site is closed, residents can use nearby facilities at Bousteads Grassing (Carlisle) or Maryport HWRCs. Waste permits issued for Syke Park will be accepted at all other HWRCs in the area.
The council will place signs in advance at each of the affected sites, and anyone visiting before the closures can ask the staff for further information. Please note that during the closures, the sites will not be staffed but will be inspected daily by Cumbria Waste Management Ltd, with Renewi Cumbria Ltd onsite to oversee the maintenance work.
The council thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding during these essential maintenance works and encourage residents to continue supporting the waste management efforts in their communities.
