Cumberland Council is informing residents and businesses about upcoming road improvements on the A596, affecting the routes from Aspatria and Low Whinnow to Micklethwaite.The work will be carried out by the council's contractor Connect Roads and have the following planned.
A596 Aspatria Resurfacing

Time: 7pm – 6am each night
Resurfacing work on A596 Aspatria will commence on Wednesday 28 August, and continue for four nights from 7pm to 6am. Please note that these works are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary. During this period, A596 Aspatria will be closed of an evening. A clearly marked diversion route will be in place, and the council is encouraging residents to plan journeys in advance and follow the designated signs. The council is kindly asking that all vehicles be removed from the road by 7pm on Wednesday 28 August, and find alternative parking arrangements, for the duration of the works.
A596 Low Whinnow to Micklethwaite Resurfacing

Time: 7pm - 6am each night
Resurfacing work on A596 from Low Whinnow to Micklethwaite will begin on Sunday 1 September for three weeks, from 7pm to 6am. These works are also subject to weather conditions and may be adjusted as needed. During this time, the A596 between Low Whinnow and Micklethwaite will be closed of an evening. A signed diversion route will be available, and the council are encouraging residents to plan routes accordingly and follow the diversion signs.
For both resurfacing projects, access for emergency vehicles will always be maintained. The road will be closed overnight only, with temporary two-way traffic signals in place at some locations where structural treatments are being performed. Residents needing access during the evening should discuss this with the traffic marshal on site, who will also be able to answer any other queries that people may have.
