From a microbus to the menopause – South Cumberland Community Panel made some fantastic investments at its latest meeting.
The panel, made up of ward councillors, works with residents and other partners to direct bespoke investment towards priorities decided by communities.
It agreed the following funding:
- £4,750 to Cleator Moor Celtic Football Club for new goal posts
- £1,461 towards a new minibus for the Muncaster Microbus community bus service. The service provides transport from Bootle northwards, to Whitehaven and Egremont. It is also used for school and community groups.
- £1,000 for the Bootle and District Fitness Group to run a pilot Menofit programme – a bespoke health and fitness scheme for women experiencing the menopause.
The Chair of South Cumberland Community Panel, Cllr Michael Eldon, said: “This is a great set of investments, and I will enjoy seeing each of them come to fruition. Each of the projects is at the heart of its communities, making a real difference."
Cllr Lisa Brown, Cumberland Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Adults and Community Health, said: “It is gratifying to see Community Panels continue to direct funding and support to excellent projects that address a local need. Collectively, they have helped hundreds of projects, and thousands of residents, to lead fulfilling lives in their communities."
The South Cumberland Community Panel covers the wards of Gosforth, Millom, Millom Without, Cleator Moor East and Frizington, Cleator Moor West and Egremont.
The application deadline for the next round of Community Panel support for South Cumberland is 14 February. Find out more here: South Cumberland | Cumberland Council or email the panel at southcumberland@cumberland.gov.uk.
