Local #LitterHeroes and waste warriors celebrated at charity awards

KBT Winners

Keep Britain Tidy honours those making a difference on their doorstep at annual awards ceremony.

Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy was delighted to announce its Network Awards winners at a ceremony in Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza hotel last Thursday night.

The Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards attract more than 100 decision-makers that help look after England’s streets and green spaces, including local authorities, housing associations and other major landowners.

Each year, more than 100 delegates from local authorities and housing associations, as well as other land managers, come together to discuss the challenges those tasked with looking after the environment on people’s doorsteps face and ensuring that everyone can love where they live.

The charity’s awards recognise the excellent work that Network members and other organisations are doing in their area to tackle environmental issues including waste, litter and fly-tipping.

The Cumberland Council Public Spaces team (street cleaning and enforcement), was thrilled to receive the Environmental Action Award.

From a unique, alien-themed digital game designed to encourage people to use their parks to a council app platform that engages and rewards communities for taking positive action for the climate and sustainability, the eight winners all serve to demonstrate that individual actions, when taken together, can make a massive difference.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:

“This is excellent news for Cumberland Council and the Public Spaces team (street cleaning and enforcement). Their dedication and hard work in preserving the beauty of Cumberland are truly commendable. This achievement is a testament to the team's dedication and work ethic, and we couldn't be prouder."

The charity’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said:

“Each year, our award winners show just what is possible when people have the passion and commitment to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep and show they love where they live.

This year is no exception, and I would like to congratulate Cumberland Council and thank them for all their incredible work.”
