A holiday playscheme and acoustic improvements were among the fantastic community projects to receive funding from the Fells and Solway Community Panel this week.
The panel, one of eight across Cumberland, supports the third sector to deliver projects addressing issues particular to its communities.
The Bolton Low Houses Social and Education Centre was awarded £3,866 towards installing sound boards to improve the acoustics in the Parish Hall.
Burgh by Sands Parish Council received £1,000 towards an AutoSpeedWatch system, which records speeding drivers.
Primrose Village Hall in Gaitsgill was awarded £637 towards the redecoration of the main hall.
Allonby Parish Council received £3,130 towards a new, accessible path through the village play area.
Northern Fells Rural Community Development Group was awarded £4,000 to help provide a summer holiday play scheme for primary school aged children in Rosley and Caldbeck.
The panel also awards some smaller grants outside the meeting, with approval delegated to the Chair, ward councillor and senior staff. Under this process, Wigton Baths Trust was awarded £900 to train a staff member to deliver ‘aquacise’ classes, to meet demand.
The Chair of the Fells and Solway Community Panel, Cllr Tony Markley, said: “As always it is gratifying to see the impressive range of projects ready to be delivered in our area, by our fantastic third sector. All these schemes contribute, in a different way, to making this a great area to live in.”
Cllr Lisa Hinton, Cumberland's Portfolio Holder for Adults and Community Health, said: "Once again our Community Panels have been presented with a range of great projects which will make a real difference to people in their communities. I look forward to seeing all these improvements and how they will help residents enjoy a better life."
The Fells and Solway Community Panel covers the wards of Dalston and Burgh, Solway Coast, Thursby, Aspatria and Wigton.
The application deadline for the next round of Community Panel support for Fells and Solway is 28 May. Find out more here: Fells and Solway Community Panel | Cumberland Council or email the panel at Fellsandsolway@cumberland.gov.uk
Investment projects are chosen according to how they fit with the priorities of the panel, which were set in conjunction with the community. For the Fells and Solway panel, those priorities are:
- Community infrastructure
- Community safety and rural crime
- Highways, transport and the environment
