
Cumberland Council would like to announce upcoming carriageway surfacing works on the B5389 in Low Lorton.
These remedial works are to correct defects on the original scheme. Although the council recognises that this is an inconvenience, it is important Cumberland Council is seen to hold its suppliers to act when works do not meet an acceptable standard. These repairs come at no additional cost to the council.
The works, delivered by the council's contractor, DSD Construction Limited, are set to begin on Monday 7 April 2025, and are expected to take around five working days to complete.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, the works will be carried out under a daytime road closure between 8.00am and 5.00pm. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place throughout the duration of the works and map of the works area and signed diversion routes is available on One Network.
Access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists. To help the works proceed as efficiently and safely as possible, the council kindly request that vehicles be removed from the works area from 7.30am – 5.30pm each day.
Temporary bus stop relocations will be clearly signed at affected stops. For further information regarding bus services, passengers are advised to contact Stagecoach directly.
Cumberland Council recognises that the B5289 is a key route, and while some short-term disruption is unavoidable, every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience. The council is working closely with local stakeholders, including Parish Councils and local members, to support those affected.
