Cumberland Council is inviting residents to participate in an upcoming consultation event designed to gather valuable feedback on the exciting and transformative regeneration project, Start with the Park.
This initiative, backed by £2.6 million in government funding from the Carlisle Town Deal, aims to enhance the green spaces of Carlisle as part of the first phase of the Greenway—a visionary green travel route connecting St Cuthbert's Garden Village (SCGV) with Carlisle city centre and the surrounding countryside.
Start with the Park is a major investment in Hammond’s Pond, aiming to create a more accessible, sustainable, and community-focused space. Proposed improvements include:
- Upgraded play areas to enhance recreational opportunities for children and families
- A brand-new skate park for active leisure and sports
- New tree planting and enhanced footpaths to improve green spaces and biodiversity
- Addressing drainage issues within the park
The consultation event will take place on Wednesday 16 April 2025, from 2.00pm to 7.00pm at Hammond’s Pond Café. This is an opportunity for residents to:
- Ask questions about the plans
- Provide any feedback on the project
- Gain a clearer understanding of the proposals and their impact on the community
Cumberland Councillor Anne Quilter, Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“We encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this exciting project. Your feedback will play a key role in creating a space that meets the needs of the community while promoting active and sustainable lifestyles.
Hammond’s Pond is one of the most well-used parks in the area, and the proposed improvements will bring real, long-term benefits for local families, visitors and residents alike. We want to capture as many people’s views as possible to help shape a space that the whole community can be proud of.”
