Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a new website designed to help people choose walking, wheeling or cycling for their everyday journeys instead of using the car.
The Travel Actively Cumbria website will be formally launched on 2 April offering residents a one-stop website for everything they need to know about active travel in Cumbria. It will feature a journey planner, tips on getting started, the latest news and events, and inspiring stories from local people who have embraced active travel.
To celebrate the launch, two events will take place on Wednesday 2 April, where residents can find out more:
- Carlisle Lanes Shopping Centre from 10am to 2pm
- Barrow town centre from 10am to 4pm
Visitors will be able to join in the celebrations, pick up some freebies, and chat with the Travel Actively team about how walking, wheeling or cycling more can boost health and happiness.
Choosing to travel by walking, wheeling or cycling rather than getting in the car can improve our health and wellbeing and benefit the environment too.
Many everyday journeys in our urban areas are within reasonable walking (1 mile) and cycling (3 miles) distance so can be done actively.
In line with the Government’s national ambition, councils in Cumbria would like to get half of all journeys in the county’s towns and city made by walking, wheeling and cycling by 2030.
The website is being delivered as a partnership with Active Cumbria, Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, with funding from the Government.
