Update on Buckabank and Ivegill Road Closures

Cumberland Council, in partnership with principal contractor Galliford Try, is informing residents and road users of essential road closures as part of the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) project.

Buckabank Road Closure:

  • From: Monday 14 April 2025
  • Location: Between Park Fauld Road and the Ratten Row junction
  • Expected Completion: May 2025

This closure coincides with ongoing work on Ivegill Road, with both expected to reopen in May. While every effort has been made to minimise disruption, this phase is critical to the construction of the new road. The works will include earthworks, drainage installation, kerbing, surfacing, signage, and road lining.

Traffic Diversion Routes:

  • Buckabank Road traffic will be redirected via Dalston Road, Junction Street, Currock Road, and Durdar Road.
  • Ivegill Road traffic will continue to follow the signed diversion via Burthwaite.

Once this phase is complete, the existing Buckabank Road will be permanently severed on either side of the new road, with traffic between Dalston and Durdar required to use the newly constructed roundabout at Durdar. A new carriageway section will also be built to reconnect Ratten Row with Buckabank Road west of Oak Dean.
