Eden Bridge in Carlisle is in the process of being reopened to pedestrians and cyclists (Friday 24 January 2025).
It was temporarily closed but now that wind speeds caused by Storm Éowyn have dropped and assessments have been made of the Sands Centre’s temporary canopy - installed as part of the RAAC replacement on the Sands’ auditorium roof - a decision has been taken to reopen the pedestrian walkway. Rickerby Park, Memorial Bridge and Zero path have also reopened.
Newmarket Road and Duke’s Road remain closed but will reopen tomorrow morning (Saturday 25 January).
The footways adjacent to The Sands Centre will remain closed and barriers will be place.
The site will be under constant observation and if circumstances change, temporary closures will be reinstalled.
The Sands Centre leisure centre, Sands Centre Car Park and the Swifts car parks will remain closed over the weekend.
