Cumberland Council spokesperson said:
“Arrangements are being made to provide a safe route over Eden Bridge, Carlisle for children leaving Trinity School and Stanwix Primary School this afternoon (Friday 24 January).
“Cumberland Council has contacted the affected schools and with the support of the schools and Cumbria Police will provide a fully stewarded route across Eden Bridge (western side only).
“For Trinity School pupils this will avoid Zero path and will divert them under the Georgian Way underpass, lead to the Hardwicke Circus underpass into Bitts Park and then over Eden Bridge towards Stanwix. Stanwix School pupils students who need to walk over the bridge into the city centre will also be stewarded to follow the same route on to Eden Bridge.
“Eden Bridge remains open to traffic.
“School buses and parents are advised to use Strand Road as their pick up point and not Duke Street. Newmarket Road remains closed.
“The Sands Centre leisure centre, Sands Centre car park and Swifts car park remain closed. Do not return to vehicles if you are parked in these car parks until you are advised it is safe to do so.”
Richard Rose Central Rose Academy is closed today.
Due to the impact of Storm Éowyn, Eden Bridge in Carlisle remains closed to other pedestrians and cyclists.
