Cumberland Council, alongside colleagues in the Cumberland Safety Partnership, is deciding how it will tackle domestic abuse.

The partnership is currently consulting the public on a draft domestic abuse strategy - residents can have their say here.

The final document will set out how partners will collectively approach the issue of domestic abuse, and endeavour to make Cumberland safer.

Cumberland Council's Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, Family Wellbeing and Housing, Emma Williamson, said: "We think this is a strong draft strategy, but it's important that everyone has a chance to input. This is an issue which touches lives everywhere, and we need to have the right priorities so we can collectively tackle domestic abuse at all levels and in all places."

Detective Superintendent Matt Scott, Head of Public Protection at Cumbria Constabulary, said: ”We are working with partners in the Cumberland Safety Partnership to establish how collectively we can target domestic abuse.

“One of our priorities at Cumbria Constabulary is preventing incidents of domestic abuse and with your feedback you can help ourselves and partners ensure we make Cumberland safer.”

The survey will remain open until 31 March.

The Cumberland Community Safety Partnership is a group of organisations who work together strategically to create safe and resilient communities where everyone can live, work and thrive. Domestic abuse is one of Cumberland Community Safety Partnership's four main priorities: domestic abuse, violence against women and girls, antisocial behaviour, and community cohesion.
